The main businesses of OCI are Basic Chemical, Petro Chemicals & Carbon Materials, and Energy Solution. Basic Chemicals consist of Polysilicon, the key material of solar cell, hydrogen peroxide for households and industrial raw materials, and fumed silica. Petro Chemicals & Carbon Materials business includes carbon black, the tire reinforcing and coloring material, pitch which is the basic material for aluminum process and benzene, used as key material in the chemical industry. For the energy solution business, solar PV business is the eco-friendly energy which protects the environment and earth.
In 2016, OCI recorded the sales of 3,631.6 billion won and operating profit of 284 billion Won on a consolidated basis. Established in 1959, OCI entered the inorganic chemical industry by producing soda ash and then, expanded into fine chemistry and petro & chemical industry. Since 2008, the company started the polysilicon business which is the core material of solar PV business. In 2012, the company aimed to become the global leading green energy company by expanding into the solar PV business.
OCI produces the highest quality products customized to the customer needs and provides rapid customer service by expanding the production facilities and local sales agencies around the world. As of 2018, OCI runs 32 business sites in eight countries around the world and provides services in more than 100 countries.
As a global leading manufacturer of polysilicon for solar PV generation, OCI provides 10-nine ultra high purity polisilicon worldwide to China, Korea, US, Asia and Europe. OCI also produces hydrogen peroxide, the raw material for commodities like detergents and fumed silica for various industrial uses.
Acquiring a polysilicon plant in Malaysia in May 2017, OCI secured an additional production capacity of 20,000 tons at a reasonable cost. The polysilicon plant in Malaysia has cost competitiveness due to cheap electricity costs and various advantages as a global production base. Based on the Gunsan plant and Malaysia plant, OCI plans to start a two-track strategy that will be responsible for customer satisfaction.
Against a backdrop of its success in the petrochemical and carbon materials sectors in Korea, OCI operates production bases in China and is actively conducting marketing campaigns for carbon black, pitch, and BTX to the global market.
Based on the experience of more than 600MW of solar power business accumulated in the US and China since 2012, OCI plans to focus on the Korean market in 2018, setting its sights on building high-quality solar power plants of more than 50 MW. The company is seeking to enter the emerging markets such as south-east Asia and African market in the future.
In response to the government's policy to expand the use of renewable energy, OCI has expanded its IPP business into an one-stop service business that provides not only IPP, but also EPC and O&M using its \ 130 billion OCISolar PV Fund. Established in 1959, OCI entered the inorganic chemistry industry by launching a soda ash production plant and later expanded its business portfolio by diversifying into coal based and other basic chemicals. In 2008, OCI entered the polysilicon business, a key substrate for the solar PV cell. This project was pioneered in an effort to expand into the renewable energy sector and to grow as a company, providing a green energy solution for the world. In 2012, OCI advanced into the solar PV generation market in the US and Korea. OCI has also made headway into the world’s largest solar energy generation market, China in 2015. ENERGY SOLUTIONS - SOLAR ENERGY
The company is focusing on energy solution business by solar power generation and cogeneration plants, which are considered as the new future growth engine. We are targeting to achieve 20% of OCI’s total revenue from these energy solutions. The ‘Alamo Project’ is the largest solar power generation project in the U.S.A. We aim to develop and construct a 400MW solar power plant in San Antonio, Texas. OCI won this contract in 2012, and the project will be completed this year. OCI has been also actively developing new solar power generation projects around the world in markets such as China, Mexico, Korea and will make more effort on developing emerging market such as India, and Africa.,
ENERGY SOLUTIONS - COGENERATION PLANT
OCI starts to run the cogeneration plants to supply energy from eco-friendly utilities to enterprises in the Saemangeum industrial complex. This complex will become an economic hub of Asia. A total of 550 billion won have been invested as a first step to contribute to the local economy. The plant is expected to generate annual sales of KRW 200 billion beginning from 2017.

Between April 2011 and March 2016, OCI will move forward with the Solar School Project to provide solar energy generators to over 300 primary schools in Korea, in addition to providing solar energy facilities and education support for a mountain hill-town in Nepal.
